CommUnity Kitchen

The CommUnity Kitchen is an outreach of First Baptist Church of Ravenswood. Notice how CommUnity is spelled? The CommUnity Kitchen is really a unified, community effort to feed those in need. Held every Saturday from 11:30-12:30 in the church fellowship hall, the CommUnity Kitchen is for local residents who want or need a free meal. We serve anywhere from 10-25 people consisting of both children and adults. At times, we have had over 30. You are welcome to stop by any Saturday and see how this outreach project works.

Local residents who are planning to eat, will arrive around 10:30 as folks gather for conversation prior to the meal. This is a great time for your volunteers to meet those who are in attendance. The crowd is always very friendly and thankful.

How it works: Typically, local persons or groups who have signed up to volunteer for a Saturday, will arrive around 9 a.m. or so, to set up for their meal. Volunteers of any size can work in a group, as little as 2 or 3 , to as many as 5-10 or more to host the meal. You can use the church’s kitchen and cookware to prepare foods onsite. You choose the menu. Then, once the meal is cooked and served, all is left for your group is the clean up and locking the doors.

Individuals, families and/or local civic groups, or other churches that would like to volunteer for the CommUnity Kitchen one week as an outreach project, can take a turn and host this meal for the community. This is a great outreach or service project in which you can take part. We have several churches and civic clubs that volunteer. We also have several families within the church, who volunteer to take one or two Saturdays each year.

If you have questions about volunteering for a future CommUnity Kitchen at First Baptist Church, or would like to learn more about how your group can get involved please let us know. There may be some financial assistance to help with purchasing the foods for this meal if needed. Please contact Susan West at (304) 273-9910 between 8-Noon, if you would like to learn more about the CommUnity Kitchen.

If you would like to make a contribution to support this outreach, please contact the church office, visit our online giving page, or mail your contribution payable to “CommUnity Kitchen,” c/o FBC, 215 Ann Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164.
